Ways To Cut Down Your Sugar Intake

Consuming excessive amounts of sugar is one of the worst things you can do to your body. It can make many harmful impacts on you. Excessive sugar intake can lead to obesity, diabetes, heart diseases, tooth decay, and cancer. Natural sugar that is found in fruits and vegetables has a minor impact on your blood sugar levels and is considered extremely healthy. We have to protect ourselves from added sugars in processed food. Here are some of the ways that you can cut down on your sugar intake:

Avoid Desserts

Many desserts do not provide any nutritional value and are loaded with sugar. It causes a surge in our blood sugar levels, and can leave us hungry, lethargic, and craving more sugar. You can try alternatives for desserts. These alternatives include:

  • Dark chocolate: Higher the cocoa content in your chocolate, the lower the level of sugar.
  • Dates: Dates are naturally sweet and extremely nutritious.
  • Fresh fruit: Instead of eating something loaded with sugar, you can have fresh fruit that contains natural sugar, fiber, vitamins, and minerals.

Eat Whole Foods

Whole foods are neither processed nor refined. These are free from additives and preservatives, and other artificial ingredients. On the other hand, ultra-processed foods contain sugar, salts, and excessive fats. The interesting fact is that it is not just junk food that contains excessive amounts of it. A healthy-seeming option like a canned pasta sauce also contains alarming amounts of sugar.
