Disadvantages of Resistance Bands

  1. Insufficient resistance: If you are a bodybuilder and looking for serious fitness, these bands may not be a good choice for you. It provides less resistance compared to the weight machine.
  1. Chances of injury: The bands have less risk of injury compared to weights but still depending on the quality of the band, it can cause eye, skin, or leg injury during exercise. A sudden moment can even result in a skin scar that stains your body. There are more chances of damage when the band is attached to another object because there’s a chance of breaking the connection. Sometimes it gets very difficult to control the band when it is fully stretched.
  1. Lack of Motivation: Motivation is the base of exercise, and according to studies, you need to track your goals and compare the result to stay motivated. With these bands, you have to do a self-motivation rather than being motivated by the use of fitness gadget.
  1. Comparability: With the other gym equipment you can easily measure how you are improving from day to day, but with a resistance band, it is difficult to measure the progress of your day to day workouts. The lack of comparability is a real problem if you are trying to measure whether your workout brought the expected result or not.
  1. Allergies: Some resistance band contains latex. If you are highly allergic to latex, you may get redness and swelling on the skin where the band touches. Although, you can look for latex-free bands in the market.
  1. Need time to get used to the Bands: Just like any other fitness equipment, it needs some time to get used to with these bands. You must need to invest a good time to know these bands.
  1. Wear and tear: Based on the material, the constant use of resistance bands could lose the elasticity. It comes in different colors to match a specific resistance. But the color coding is not standard. The blue band you buy in the store may be different than the blue one you used in the gym.
